Sagra della Testa di Turco in Castelbuono

Among the most anticipated events in Castelbuono is the Sagra della Testa di Turco, dedicated to one of the most iconic desserts of the Madonie area.

La Testa di Turco is a traditional specialty from Castelbuono: a crisp, flaky pastry filled with local cow’s milk cream, finished with a dusting of cinnamon and chocolate. The traditional preparation is entrusted to the historic American Bar pastry shop run by the Sferruzza brothers, located in Piazza Minà Palumbo.

During the event, visitors can not only taste the famous dessert but also enjoy a selection of other local products such as cured meats, cheeses, and artisanal sweets offered by local producers.

The festival takes place in the picturesque Piazza Margherita, in the heart of Castelbuono’s historic centre, usually in December, creating a warm and festive atmosphere that brings together both residents and visitors.

According to local tradition, this dessert is said to have originated centuries ago to celebrate the Norman victory over the Arabs, becoming over time a symbol of the town’s history and identity.
