The stunning Gole di Tiberio

In the heart of the Madonie Natural Park, about 50 km from Terre & Torri, lie the remarkable Gole di Tiberio, one of Sicily’s most spectacular natural attractions. This extraordinary canyon, carved by the Pollina River, sits approximately 100 metres above sea level and is recognised as a site of significant geological and environmental value thanks to its unique landscape and rock formations.

Stretching for around 450 metres, the gorges take their name from the ancient hamlet of Tiberio, located within the municipality of San Mauro Castelverde. The towering rock walls tell a story that spans thousands of years, shaped by the force of water and karst processes that have created a truly unique and captivating landscape.

A boat excursion offers the opportunity to explore the most impressive section of the gorges, passing through natural environments of exceptional beauty. Along the way, visitors can admire ancient fossils embedded in the rock, dramatic cliff faces sculpted by time, nests of wild birds, and enchanting reflections dancing across the water. The final part of the journey leads to a peaceful natural basin, resembling a small lake, surrounded by unspoilt vegetation and tranquil silence.

For those who enjoy a closer connection with nature, the warmer months also offer the chance to take part in river activities and swim in the clear waters of the Pollina River, enjoying an authentic experience immersed in pristine landscapes and a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere.
